Best Milk Shakes in the Country

Everyone's always in search of the best, especially when it comes to food. We hunt for the best cheeseburger, the best pizza, the best mojito ...

But as summer starts making its exit, we figured it best to celebrate some of the best milkshakes across the country.

(Those who are lactose intolerant need not read on.)

The Counter's Apple Pie Milkshake
Nationwide
Luckily The Counter, known for its build your own burger concept, is a chain that covers much of California, in addition to hitting Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, North Carolina, and even Ireland and Australia, among others. But that means there are plenty of country-wide options for sticking a straw in their famous apple pie milkshake, mixing all the best sugar-and-cinnamon parts of that all-American favorite into a rich vanilla milkshake. Yum!

Lucky Devil's Toasted Pecan Shake
Los Angeles
Peanut butter is passé. Try a taste of Hollywood eatery Lucky Devil's toasted pecan shake for the perfect balance of toasty nut goodness and ice cream, if you're looking to shake up your usual nutty shake routine.

Stand's Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake
New York
Stand has the distinction of offering their shakes either spiked or virgin, with an array of flavors ranging from rum and coconut to vanilla Kahlua. But it's their non-boozy offerings that are the stuff of legend. Sure, they have the basics, but then there's pumpkin, honey lavender chocolate, ricotta pistachio, and the aforementioned toasted marshmallow, which has been described as thick, flavorful, and with a great texture. Heaven.

Snow White's Black and White Milkshake

Philadelphia
Sometimes you just can't mess with a classic, and apparently, Snow White abides by this rule. Take Jack and Jill vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup and Lehigh Valley Dairy milk, blend it to creamy perfection, and you'll understand why this one won accolades from Philadelphia Magazine for being the best.

Becks Prime's Fresh Brewed Jamoca Milkshake
Houston
When Zagat's describes your milkshakes as "heavenly and thick," chances are you're on the right track. Sure, Becks Prime has your basic strawberry and chocolate, but Jamoca is that little extra special kick that makes chocolate all the more enjoyable, with a bit of coffee yumness to fancy things up a bit.

Lunchbox Laboratory's Cheesecake Milkshake
Seattle
It's genuinely hard to pick a favorite at this milkshake hotspot. How can you choose between a simple Nutella, a temptingly titled Heath toffee mocha, or the unique shake interpretations like Fat Elvis banana peanut butter, blackberry rock candy, or bacon and brown sugar? But it's Lunchbox Laboratory's cheesecake one that keeps 'em coming back, with just the right blend of sweet to cheesiness. Delish.
